Chrome Extension Must Haves: PageRank Status

PageRank Status by ChromeFans.org
The very best Chrome Extension for tracking Google Page Rank and Alexa Rank. At a glance you can see a websites PR and with a few more clicks quickly check its back links using Yahoo Site Explorer. Another thing I like to use it for is seeing just how many of my pages are indexed with Google, you can do that with a click as well.

check your google pagerank with this chrome extension quickly

From what I've seen PageRank Status is very accurate. Many of the online PR tools you input your domain into do not work most of the time and give out of date or inaccurate information. Another key feature of this extension is it's extremely easy to use. Just go to a website and point and click and your checking out all it's search engine data. If you're looking for an on the fly means of checking out a websites validity or monitoring your own everyday without hassle I strongly recommend this extension.

DOWNLOAD

NOTES:

If you have a Blogspot or Tumblr like blog it's not going to track your website because remember it's tracking "Blogspot.com", all the more reason to step up to the plate and get your own domain.

You have to hover over it to get Alexa data but Google PageRank is always displayed.

Chome Extension Must Haves: Diigo Web Highlighter and Bookmark

Chrome Extension Must Haves: Diigo Web Highlighter and Bookmark

Here's another tool I use every single day I decide to do some blogging. Brought to you by Diigo (formally Furl) this extension is the ultimate organisational bookmarking and sharing tool I have found. Share links with friends, groups, social websites etc. Highlight sections you want to pay close attention to next time you visit and add notes for future visitors.

Being the Link Medic, I am scouring the Internet looking for some of the best sites I can find concerning blogging. What I love most about this extension is the ability to keep things private. Because some bookmarks I'm just saving for a short time until I can get back to them to read or get what I need then I can delete it just as fast as I added it. What I find myself doing the most is making lists to add my bookmarks to so I can organize everything I bookmark.

The little lock icons shows me that the list is private. Adding a site to your list is as simple as clicking one button then selecting from a drop down box to find your list.

Just hit the highlighter, then drag it across text.

Another useful feature is the Highlighter function. Let's say you're writing a report on chickens, you come across a website on farm animals that has a small portion of text about chickens in a huge list of other animals. Well just highlight the chicken section and when you come back you can find it easily. And not only that your highlighted text will show up in your Diigo Library on the bottom of the bookmark.

Another thing you can do is add notes. Apart from leaving funny ones on Google.com for other people to see. It also serves the purpose of quickly adding additional information to your bookmarked site easily and for other people to see. Or in my case, just me.

The Recap
If you feel lost in your bookmarks and don't know where anything is, it's time to get this extension. Save, Organize, Share anything, this is a must have in the bookmarking category. Indispensable tool for webmasters and bloggers, amazing tool for anyone else as well. Download it and get organized!

Chrome Extension Must Haves: Create Link

Chrome Extension Must Haves: Create Link

Adding a long list of links can be a real pain, I don't know how you do it but it usually involves a lot of copying and pasting inside little HTML tags. Having a blog called "The Link Medic" means I'm constantly having to link to websites. Create Link by Ku is probably the tool I use most out of all the things in my arsenal. In fact I just used it right now to make that link to go download it. Check out the video to see just how easy it works.

The Pros
Compile a large list of links fast
Eliminate many steps just to add a link to your site
The ability to customize the link beforehand to eliminate having to do it later
Simple to use

The Cons
You may have to edit the link because it's based off the page title

The Recap
I have found this tool extremely helpful and easy to use that's why I'm sharing it to you. It may be simple but sometimes the simple ones are the best.

Chrome Extension Must Haves: StayFocusd

Ask any blogger and they'll tell you they probably set out to write some more content for their blog but usually end up checking Facebook for 20 minutes instead.

That's 20 minutes you could of spent working on your blog. As I write this I am only allowed to be on Facebook for 10 minutes today, thanks to a wonderful little extension called StayFocusd by Warren Benedetto.

Whatever your vice is you can essentially ween yourself off of it. Are my Farmville plants wilting? Ah -- I guess it will have to wait. Back to the post!

This extension has many other applications, imagine having this as a college student? Or maybe you work from home? At any rate it will do exactly as the extension claims.

This extension features some nice configuration and a nice help FAQ.

The Pros

  • A legitimate way to put a curb on your unproductive browsing.
  • Set the time your comfortable with limiting yourself with.
  • Turn it on or off on certain days and certain hours.
  • Block and allow multiple sites at once.

The Cons

  • You will be forced to stay on task in the comfort of your own home!
  • If you have too many blocked sites you can't see them all.
  • Easy to disable and uninstall.

The Recap

You can't hire an axe wielding minotaur to sit over your shoulder and make you write your research paper but this is pretty close. If you need to get things done this is one device that can seriously aid you and perhaps make you laugh along the way.

Install it and get to work! Now if I can only find a way to turn my TV off.

Chrome Extension Must Haves: the Web Grabber

Chrome Extension Must Haves: the Web Grabber

This is the first part in a series that will showcase essential Google Chrome extensions for bloggers and webmasters alike.

First up is the Web Grabber by vizio360. This extension takes thumbnail screenshots of websites or whatever you want on the page. After trying many online web based website "snapshot" services, I thought there must be a better way. Shortly after I can across this plugin and have found it extremely useful. I wanted to endorse it because -- i'm using it myself.

Adding thumbnails to your link can add a lot of value to your site. Visitors will be able to see what they're clicking on which will help facilitate them clicking on it. It also adds a level of attractiveness to what would otherwise just be a plain text link. Additionally it can even drive a bit of traffic to your site if the thumbnail gets hits on google image search.

The Pros
Take website snapshots for thumbnails quickly
Capture just a portion of the site or the whole thing (only captures what is visable)
Quality is good
Save multiple images
Delete the ones you don't want
Download all your captures as a zip or seperately as a image
The Cons
Saves as jpg (some could see this as a negative)
Takes a few steps to get your capture but nothing exhausting

The Recap
All in all this is exactly what I was looking for since most of the website capture services are sluggish at best this little extension does the trick. I'm hoping there will be a new version of this extension because it shows a lot of potential. Here are some example thumbnails I took.

How to disable and enable Chrome Extensions

Here's a little tutorial video I made to demonstrate disabling and enabling of a Google Chrome Extension:

Disabling
1. Right click on the Extension Icon in the toolbar.
2. Click Disable.

Enabling 1. Right click any Extension in the toolbar.
2. Find the Extension you want to Enable and click Enable.
3. It will reappear in the toolbar.

*As of now there is no way to prevent yourself from disabling Stayfocusd*
